What is the Calibro mask’s fog reduction system?
The mask’s anti-fog system uses a patented silicone membrane around the nose. It acts as a deflector, preventing the warm air released when equalising through the nose from reaching the lenses directly. This reduces fogging, a common issue with small-volume masks. The membrane also helps stabilise the mask during movement and pressure changes. For maximum effect, Cressi recommends applying an anti-fog product or saliva as an additional measure
What are the features of the Calibro mask lenses?
For maximum safety, the Calibro mask has tempered glass lenses. This material offers greater strength (2 to 5 times stronger than a standard lens) and is designed to break into small, non-sharp pieces on impact, reducing the risk of serious injury. It is also far more scratch-resistant than a polycarbonate lens.
What’s more, the lenses are angled to combine minimal internal volume with an exceptionally wide field of view.
How to choose the right mask size
To check the correct size and seal, remove the strap and place the mask on your face.
Press lightly with your hands and hold your breath. If the mask “suctions” well and sticks to your face, it’s perfect, it’s your size and will be watertight in the water. If, on the other hand, it slips and falls off, it’s because air is getting through and water will seep in, so you need to try another size or change the model and shape.
What is mask squeeze and how can it be avoided?
Mask squeeze is a phenomenon that occurs during descent, even within the first few metres underwater. As pressure increases, the air inside the mask compresses, creating a suction effect that can cause discomfort or even injury (to the face, eyes, etc.). To prevent this, you must equalise the pressure by gently and regularly blowing air through your nose during descent.
