The Gore-Tex membrane
It was in 1958 that Mr and Mrs Gore created the Gore company in their garage in Newark, Delaware. A scientific discovery enabled them to develop a material that could withstand heavy rain without absorbing water. Gore-Tex technology had been invented. It is used in jackets, gloves and shoes. And in 1981 it was even used in space suits. A Gore-Tex membrane guarantees that your feet will stay dry, so you can enjoy the outdoors whatever the weather.
The Vibram sole
The company has been producing soles since 1937, and developed the first sole for mountaineering by means of rubber vulcanisation. The name Vibram was created, and the brand quickly gained recognition for the excellent grip on its soles. Nowadays, shoes with this type of sole are renowned for the grip they offer on both dry and wet surfaces.
The Hydrobloc label
Zamberlan carries out regular checks on the hides selected for the manufacture of its shoes. Only leathers that meet the highest standards bear the Hydrobloc® logo (as on this model). This logo certifies the superior quality of the leather and its specific characteristics of high resistance to water and abrasion. The shoes are treated with a special finish that enhances the leather’s water-repellency, strength and durability.
Cleaning advice
To clean the shoes, remove the laces and rinse them under cold running water, using a mild soap if necessary. Make sure the upper and sole are free of dust and debris. Rinse the shoes, especially if they have been in contact with acidic surfaces, as the acidity can be particularly harsh and damaging.
Drying instructions
Remove the insoles and leave everything to dry in a cool, well-ventilated place. If your shoes are very damp, you can stuff them with newspaper to speed up the drying process, replacing the paper from time to time. Never dry your shoes in direct contact with heat sources such as open flames or electric radiators, as this could cause the leather to crack or shrink and seriously damage the grip between the sole and the upper, as well as the protective shell.
Taking care of the leather
The main purpose of proper treatment with a cream or spray is to ‘nourish’ and protect the leather so that it retains a high degree of strength and suppleness. Generally speaking, it is better to apply a small amount of treatment at regular, fairly frequent intervals than to apply excessive amounts of treatment infrequently.
