This down jacket has water-repellency. Water-repellency refers to a fabric’s capacity to allow water to run off its surface without being absorbed. This means the textile doesn’t become waterlogged and stays warm. Water-repellency is achieved through a PFC-free treatment applied to the outer surface of the fabric, which may wear off with use. We advise you to reactivate it after each wash. In wet weather, we advise you to wear a waterproof jacket over this down jacket.
How do you maintain your Makalu down jacket?
Worn throughout the winter, your down jacket will certainly need washing. But don’t wash it too often, as there is a risk that its thermal and repellent properties will deteriorate. Machine wash at 30°C with 2 or 3 tennis balls and a down-specific detergent. Select a gentle spin cycle. Tumble-dry it on the “cotton” setting with 2 or 3 tennis balls, and repeat the process several times until it is completely dry. Or a dry-cleaning service.
