A redesigned and improved garment
The flagship product of the Somlys range, the Made in Traque jacket has been upgraded to offer trackers unrivalled performance. Designed for big-game hunters to help them tackle dense, thorny and challenging terrain, it is made from high-quality materials. It combines functionality, comfort and durability.
Why is this jacket made from Cordura® Ripstop fabric?
In practical terms, it combines high-density Cordura® nylon (a strong, abrasion-, wear- and tear-resistant material) with orange ripstop fabric. Ripstop is a weaving technique that reinforces a fabric to make it particularly tear-resistant. What makes it special is that it incorporates thicker, stronger threads at regular intervals, forming a characteristic grid pattern (cross-hatching) that prevents any snags from becoming larger.
A special membrane
The jacket also features a GOLD SL-TEX floating membrane, which is waterproof and breathable (8K/5K). Unlike a “laminated” membrane (bonded to the outer fabric), a floating membrane is a separate waterproof and breathable layer positioned between the outer fabric and the inner lining. Consequently, the tiny punctures caused by brambles or thorns on the outer fabric do not necessarily penetrate the waterproof layer underneath.
The benefits of a floating membrane
1/It does not move in tandem with the outer fabric, which virtually eliminates any friction noise.
2/It offers greater freedom of movement when clearing obstacles or firing rapidly. This avoids the ’armour-like’ effect of stiff rain jackets.
3/The air gap between the outer fabric and the floating membrane creates a buffer zone that acts as an additional natural insulator.
Other points to bear in mind (part 1 of 2)
This jacket is thorn-proof and waterproof. It features a 100% polyester inner lining, a double-zip front pocket, a removable hood and a magnetic walkie-talkie pocket. It also features 2 zipped pockets at the bottom, press-stud cuffs, a vertical zip chest pocket and two hand pockets. Inside, there is a licence pocket, a mobile phone pocket, 2 large horizontal zip pockets and a pocket that can be used for a ring or bracelet
Other points to bear in mind (part 2 of 2)
To tackle harsh, dense environments where the vegetation offers no respite, you need clothing made from sturdy materials. That’s the case with this jacket. However, this does not make it any heavier than necessary: it weighs 1.6 kg in size L. The jacket also features a 32 cm vertical zip on each side. They act as a gusset when you open the zip. Finally, there are 4 ventilation panels on the back to improve airflow.
